Deli Manager

The Deli Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the deli department. This includes preparing sandwiches, hot bar items, soups, grab-and-go foods, and other prepared foods for the store.

This is a hands-on management role. The Deli Manager will work alongside deli staff in the prep area on daily food production, cleaning, stocking, and organizing while also helping guide and support the team.

The Deli Manager helps make sure the department is clean, organized, well-stocked, and running smoothly. This person will lead by example, support and train deli staff, maintain high standards for food quality and safety, and help ensure that prepared foods are fresh, consistent, and ready for customers.

The ideal candidate has around 5+ years of deli, prepared foods, kitchen, or food service experience, ideally with some management or leadership experience. We are also looking for someone who shares the values of the co-op and enjoys being part of a community-focused workplace.

Pay: $22–$25 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Full-time

Deli Manager Job Description:

❋ Responsibilities 
  • Oversee daily deli operations, including food prep, production, stocking, cleaning, and organization.

  • Work alongside deli staff to prepare sandwiches, hot bar items, soups, grab-and-go foods, and other prepared foods.

  • Lead, train, and support deli staff while helping maintain a respectful and productive work environment.

  • Maintain high standards for food quality, consistency, freshness, presentation, food safety, and sanitation.

  • Manage inventory, ordering, waste, product availability, and department organization.

  • Communicate clearly with staff, store leadership, vendors, and customers, and help support the needs of the store as a whole.

❋ Required Qualifications
  • Around 5+ years of deli, prepared foods, kitchen, or food service experience.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling.

  • Ability to lead a team with respect, patience, clarity, and follow-through.

  • Good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Comfortable working in a busy backroom prep/kitchen environment and able to lift up to 50 lbs.

❋ Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous deli, kitchen, grocery, or food service management experience.

  • Experience with ordering, inventory, scheduling, and department planning.

  • Experience preparing sandwiches, hot bar items, soups, and grab-and-go foods.

  • Familiarity with co-ops, natural foods, local foods, or community-focused grocery.
